Proposal
In the next six months I desire to explore the various social-political and formal qualities of sound: pertaining to digital but not exclusively. Hopefully by penetrating into the various practices of working with sound, such as recording, production, distribution (of various forms), performance, engineering, etc… and contextualizing them through the perspective of traditional music as well as more contemporary practices such as the various forms of sound art, I will be able to further contextualize and develop my interests. I have a project I have been working on which is I will perform on the sixteenth of September at the SFAI welcoming party. It is a dynamic amalgamation of different pre-recorded sounds (in the form of vinyl records), composed into syncretic expressions aimed at communicating some of me (and my homie’s) marginal ideas of how we understand music. A major part of communicating these expressions is structuring them into a format that they can exist meaningfully. In this case, a party! Performance is a big part of our vocabulary. I wish to add to this vocabulary in as many aspects as I can; engineering, programming, etc…
- I completely agree Raf! Performance is completely interesting! I really enjoyed you and Darby's gig at SFAI. I look forward to more of your gigs over the semester. It would be great for you to focus in on one solid project for the final project, as I think that will help you get more done. More notes in a few.
