Now that Laoban Soundsystem 2.0 is being produced, I want to plan some very solid events out for the summer here in Beijing. After doing the Summer Planning event which started out good, but that basically failed because of a miscalcuation of Chinese artists interests, we have decided to refocus the events on some more calculated events to work in China. Here are four IDEAS.

Contents

Exercise

In China, often you see strange scenes with sound systems outdoors and loads of older people being trained in various dance styles. The best event I have seen like this is in Guangzhou outside of the electronics store, GoME. I saw four different soundsystems and four different groups of people dancing to four different genres of dance music. Funny enough, a group of breakdancers were off to the side without a sound system of their own.

After talking with Matt Hope about this, his girlfriend, Lu Jia said the reason this is possible is that these public gatherings are classified as exercise in China.

So, we should do an exercise event!

Shopping Store

Often in China, there are shopping stores that have full day sales on the weekend. We should partner with a shopping store to bring our sound system and do a proper sale!

Shop Opening with Dancers

Sometimes you see brand new stores with dancers in near cosplay dancing to bad music. Lets do an opening!

Overlap Tour

Originally, myself, Dickson Dee, and Christopher Willits had planned to do a tour in July in souther and nothern China with the sound system. After calculating time, and then wanting to bring in friend, Yang Tao and Ryuichi Sakamoto from Japan, we decided that August or September is much better. How many cities

July 22 Total Eclipse

(05:34:04 PM) Ulrich: not total in tibet
(05:34:13 PM) Ulrich: so better perhaps somewhere out of chengdu
(05:34:25 PM) Ulrich: or yichang
(05:34:31 PM) Ulrich: at 3 gorges dam
(05:34:34 PM) Ulrich: but, i'v ebeen there
(05:34:45 PM) Ulrich: ok, maybe suzhou

(05:34:55 PM) Ulrich: and prob a big party
(05:35:24 PM) rejon: whoa
(05:35:28 PM) rejon: yah, great idea
(05:35:33 PM) rejon: we should totally plan a big party around this
(05:35:37 PM) Ulrich: it's longer in suzhou than in chengdu
(05:35:40 PM) Ulrich: (a few min)
(05:35:57 PM) Ulrich: well, maybe 4 min instead of 5 min, doesn't matter
(05:36:06 PM) Ulrich: laoban premiere
(05:36:08 PM) Ulrich: ?
(05:52:11 PM) Ulrich: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogle/SEgoogle2001/SE2009Jul22Tgoogle.html
(05:53:50 PM) Ulrich: On July 22, 2009 the sun's shadow will be racing from India across China, and continue out into the Pacific Ocean. This will be a 6 min 38 sec. total solar eclipse at it's maximum, the longest of the 21st century and at our viewing location the totality should last about 5 min 50 sec.
We will be near Hangzhou for the event and about 1 1/2 hrs after the eclipse, a tidal bore, the largest ever, is predicted to occur on the river near our location and we hope to see this also.
(05:54:07 PM) Ulrich: the tidal bore is serious shit, too

Conclusion

There are many more events we can plan, but after talking with my friend Yang Tao, more calculated events in China with sponsors and a fee, work much better. Let's bring them on! Plan these events out and hook it up!
