Here's a quick art idea: rent or a buy a chipper and shredder, and have people bring their stuff to shred in the shredder. Have the output into a gallery room, or subdivide the room with glass or plastic. This project can be done in many different locations.
People will be encouraged to bring in junk, bits of wood, and other items. However, might be best to make this *GREEN* so not to anger those in politically correct countries like the United States. Another idea is to shred only wood, and make mulch on the spot and transform one's used or household products into something different -- a change of state.

Commercial
Develop a container that collects output from the shredder, or a type of urn, which provides the shredding material in changed state. At sell the containers for some amount of money as a limited quantity for the night. Limit the number of shreds and provide 10 free shreds. Have the shreds signed by artist at the opening.
