As I blogged on the CC blog last week, tomorrow night is the first CC Salon of the new year at Shinesf.com from 7-9 PM. Joi Ito blogged it and I’m going to re-sample my original post:
Please join us for the first CC Salon of 2007 at ShineSF.com on Wednesday, February 21, from 7-9 PM in San Francisco. It will be major! And, yes, please note, we are not doing this event monthly now, but every other month to maximize the impact in SF!
The line-up for the evening:
Details
The event is free and open to the public. Quick presentations begin at 7 PM and go until 9 PM, but if you’d like to have an informal meeting or get a good seat, get there a bit early (We open the doors at 6 PM). So don’t worry if you’re late; there will be stuff happening all night at Shine, 1337 Mission Street between 9th and 10th Streets. Shine has free wi-fi and a super cool Flickr photo booth. Note: Since Shine is a bar, CC Salon is only open to people who are 21 and older.
Also, plug this event into your digital life on our upcoming.org posting.
About
CC Salon is a free, casual monthly get-together focused on conversation, presentations, and performances from people or groups who are developing projects that relate to open content and/or software. Please invite your friends, colleagues, and anyone you know who might be interested in drinks and discussion. There are now CC Salons happening in San Francisco, Toronto, Berlin, Beijing, Warsaw, Seoul, Brisbane, and Johannesburg. Read about the first Jo’burg salon on iCommons.org.

Well, I gues the day’s news has been won by Steve Jobs and Anti-DRM. Thank the Lord. Also, in another thank god moment. Ted Haggard has been cured from gay-ness. He is now “Completely Heterosexual.” Yes, that’s right he was cured. Praise the Lord!
I think this respected news source sums it up well:
Fresh from de-Gayhab, the Rev. Ted Haggard says he’s not gay anymore.
Who is Ted Haggard? Remember the disgraced preacher who liked to snort meth off the buttocks of a gay hooker? That Ted Haggard.
Haggard, 50, resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and was fired from the church he built from nothing into a 14,000-member congregation after a former male prostitute in Denver alleged a three-year cash-for-sex relationship.
Now the Rev. Ted Haggard has emerged from three weeks of intensive counseling convinced he is “completely heterosexual” and told an oversight board that his sexual contact with men was limited to his accuser, the gay hooker.
It is notable how Ted Haggard and his crew have dealt with this issue in Bush-Rove-like fashion. Gavin Newsome, San Francisco’s pro-affair alcohol using mayor, should learn some tactics from Haggard’s team on ground control: Faith first, truth second.
(NOTE: Massive Sarcasm in this post. Disclosure: I’m the son of a preacher.)

Check out Tajee’s vlog/podcast about Creative Commons and what I do there (follow the link for flash video). Here is a quick sample of her blog:
ネオワールドにてお世話になっているCreative Commonsさんを訪問しました!
実は12月に4周年パーティーがあったので、neo-worldのCDつながりで顔を出したのがきっかけ!パーティー主催をしていたJonさんを訪ねました。おちゃめなJonさんとおしゃれなオフィスに感動しまくりなのでした。。。
そうそう、Creative CommonsさんのHPに実は、neo-worldを掲載していただきました!
ありがとうございます!
I visited Creative Commons in San Francisco. Neo-world, the project to think of next generation by podcasting, is supported by Creative Commons. (Those songs are [licensed] under Creative Commons). I visited Jon, a party organizer of Creative Commons 4th anniversary in Dec.
He was such a fun person, and I was impressed at the cool office!
Creative Commons in Japan has an article about our project, neo-world! Thank you!

If anyone wants to come intern with me this summer to work on both code and community projects, check the post on the Creative Commons site and follow directions well:
Community + Media Development Internship
This internship is for an eager student who is interested in building Creative Commons and Free Culture communities. The internship will focus on a grass roots effort, and/or media development to encourage the reuse of content. While FreeCulture.org club participation is encouraged for this position, a practical enthusiasm is a requirement. This position will be offered to a non-law student. Particular skills in media creation (video, audio, software) are desired, as well as demonstrated community involvement in and around Creative Commons and FreeCulture.org
UPDATE: Apps are due by March 1st

A big congrats to Second Life for open sourcing their client. This is a big move and goes a long way to addressing things I have brought up here before. It also heads off and support the project libsecondlife.

I’m heading to Taipei, Taiwan on Monday for the CC Taiwan sponsored conference “Open & Free: New Enterprise in the Information Age — An International Workshop“. It should be fun to head east. I will also spend some time working with the CC Taiwan team on their own ccHost-based projects. I’m presenting in the collaboration section of the conference about The Open Content Library: Building Large Scale “Open” Communities around Multiple Media. I’m not speaking so much about the larger project Open Content Library, as much as about the concept of open content libraries like the Open Clip Art Library, ccMixter.org, and even good ole wikipedia.
Then, I’m back to China to Hong Kong and Guangzhou for a week off to chill. That actually means eat really good and work on Inkscape release, Open Clip Art Library and other projects. I will also go to my favorite gym and get shouted at in Mandarin in hip-hop, bellydancing, and aerobic dance classes as much as possible. Ah, I will dream about being bi-coastal in the future, as well as wanting to do an American-style road trip in China from Guangzhou to Beijing and (fly) back.
I’ll be in Taiwan from Jan 9-13 and then in Hong Kong and Guangzhou (Canton) from 13-20 and then back to San Francisco. Let’s connect if you are in those areas and want to do some things
As always, the road goes the other way if you are in my neck of the woods (like lil wayne).
