This just in from Mr Superhumanoid himself, Cam’ron Parkins: R-Kelly is not guilty on all 6 accounts!
This is a big day for one of the most creative and successful R&B/Hip-Hop artists of all time! Also, he is one of the highest level, if not the highest level musician to have Creative Commons licensed some music.
Here are some juicier tidbits from a news article:
Jurors, who began their deliberations Thursday afternoon, said that though most of them believed Kelly was the man on the tape, it was harder to positively identify the girl.
And…
Kelly’s attorneys had alleged that the star was framed by his former protégé, singer Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards, the alleged victim’s aunt. Sparkle and parts of the victim’s family had teamed up with two Kansas City men to fake the sex tape, Kelly’s team alleged, saying Sparkle wanted “money, money, money.”
Neither Kelly nor the alleged victim were on the tape, they contended, claiming that a mole on Kelly’s back did not appear on the man in the tape.
And the resulting…
But an overcome Kelly dropped his head and began sobbing as the first “not guilty” was read shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, keeping it bowed for several minutes as he was cleared on each of the remaining counts.
Now, does this clear the way for a lil wayne and R-Kelly track or leaked album. I think R-Kelly’s Double-Up album had to be one of the best hip-hop albums of last year, and now Lil Wayne has dropped probably the hottest album of 2008 thus far. Can these camps get together please and make some jams.

I’ve blogged about my favorite rapper, artist, musician before, Lil Wayne, when he consciously leaked tracks prior to his upcoming album in understanding the effect that would have on spreading his music, encouraging sales, and more commerce around his entire existence. Wayne embraced piracy, or as Gilberto Gil calls it, “peer-acy.”
Well, now Lil Wayne’s latest album, Tha Carter III has been leaked 10 days before the album is to be released on June 10 (and through btjunkie its quite easy to find). So, who did the leaking? Since he leaked, er, released, er, leaked tracks prior to Tha Carter III back before Christmas 2007, these are supposedly the real tracks that some DJ released out of anger for Wayne dissing on DJ’s. The Wikipedia article clarifies:
On May 30th-31st, Tha Carter III was leaked internationally. The first of the leaks were distributed on May 30th at around 8pm where five songs from the track list were available on the internet. Hours later on May 31st at 12am-1am the whole album was leaked and posted on various websites for free download. The DJ responsible for the leaks was DJ Chuck T who retaliated for an interview conducted by Wayne, where he discredited all DJ’s and the mixtape scene days before.
Do you all think this is true? Wayne owes mucho to DJ Drama and the entire mixtape scene. I find it hard to believe that Wayne would diss DJ’s without a good reason. I could think of some good reasons to diss DJs after seeing gramps DJ in Beijing a couple of weeks ago. I’m talking about DJ Cut Chemist mixing music from 20-30 years ago! Yes, that is how old Hip-Hop is now! Amazing.

Yes, the leak kind of came out, but not really. The tracks that were leaked were slightly okay, but I have to ask, is lil Wayne doing too many drugs now or is he leading the hip hop masses into the land of hip-hop pyschedilia (or would that be cyberdelia)?
From this hiphopdx article he states:
“Fuck it, I’m not even a rapper. I’m past that…I’m an R&B singer now. Call me T-Wayne,” he said, after previewing a new song in which he sings with a vocoder. “I have an album coming out called Luv Sawngz. It’s me being more creative, more talented, more than hip-hop.”
I personally can’t stand these tracks, but, I’m totally into Lil Wayne experimenting and sending out constant shockwaves around the world of stagnant hip-hop
Regardless, his latest track lollipop, in which he uses a vocoder, is getting good airplay and he is working with DJ Drama on Dedication 3…brilliant!
BTW: I’m partially blogging this because I’m getting tons of traffic from any post I make about lil wayne…nearly 20% of my traffic is from lil wayne posts right now! Web folks, please do think about what this means for all the ad-clickers out there

Amazing reading that my favorite rapper Lil Wayne has a new album coming out, but I was drawn to this quote:
After most of the album leaked to the Internet in mid-2007, Lil Wayne decided to use the leaked tracks, plus four new tracks and make an album out of them, titled Tha Carter III: The Leak. The Leak will be officially released December 18, 2007, with the actual album being delayed until February 12, 2008. When questioned about the unplanned album leak, Lil Wayne said:
We have to find out exactly what’s out there. I’ll probably just [collect] all the songs that’s floating around and make my own mixtape called “The Leak” since people want the music so bad. To tell you the truth though, there’s a song I did with Kanye West out there—of course you want to save that for your album, but the rest of them songs probably wouldn’t have made the album. There’s a song floating around that says ‘produced by Timbaland’; Tim didn’t produce that record though.
What amazes me about this is that the Industry can’t move as fast as the creative work flowing out of Lil Wayne and his crew, but also you can see how deep and aggressive artists are now publicly in the face of their distribution deals. Of course, artists have done this for ages, especially Hip Hop artists .Its interesting just to see how giving away tracks actually helps the artists overall career, which is more valuable across the board than free content.
Of course, it should be noted that Lil Wayne is President of Cash Money records and founder of subsidiary, Young Money. Please note, both labels have distribution deals with Universal Records.
As I said last night over some drinks with other CC folk, hip-hop is 10 years ahead of the rest of the music industry. Ok, that is a bit of an exaggeration…I revise that to just say, hiphop is way ahead of the rest of music industry with Cash Money doing their thang since 1992 and hiphop artists adapting quickly to the changing landscape.
As a side note, R Kelly released a CC licensed track earlier this summer and I’m hopeful that we’ll get a lil wayne cc licensed track out soon…anyone on board for this?
