An event I help put on for Creative Commons is this week, please come out to it if you are in the area:
Hello friends. We just added some great presentations for the CC Salon SF on April 18, 7-9 PM at Shinesf.com (1337 Mission St). Here is the quick run-down:
- Liz Dunn, Technorati, about WTF (Where’s the Fire and CC)
- Seth Mazow, Interplast.org, showing film at the end of the night
- Jay Dedman, SpinXpress.com and Outhink.com, about SpinXpress and CC Video Bumpers
- Brian Mulloy, Dimitry Dimov, and Sara Wood from Swivel.com, about visualizing your data
- Debut of New CC video by Eric Steuer, Creative Commons, Creative Director
- Music by Doublefish, Reconfiguration Records (China)
Take a break from the heavy conference week, have a drink, or plan a meeting. Come and meet others who are interested into CC and are networking to the common call of CC licensing.
Also, if you NOTE to WRITERS and PUBLISHERS, another installment of the CC Publishers Association is going to be at 6 PM at the same venue before the salon.
Please RSVP/track this event at this upcoming.org listing.

As I blogged on the CC blog last week, tomorrow night is the first CC Salon of the new year at Shinesf.com from 7-9 PM. Joi Ito blogged it and I’m going to re-sample my original post:
Please join us for the first CC Salon of 2007 at ShineSF.com on Wednesday, February 21, from 7-9 PM in San Francisco. It will be major! And, yes, please note, we are not doing this event monthly now, but every other month to maximize the impact in SF!
The line-up for the evening:
Details
The event is free and open to the public. Quick presentations begin at 7 PM and go until 9 PM, but if you’d like to have an informal meeting or get a good seat, get there a bit early (We open the doors at 6 PM). So don’t worry if you’re late; there will be stuff happening all night at Shine, 1337 Mission Street between 9th and 10th Streets. Shine has free wi-fi and a super cool Flickr photo booth. Note: Since Shine is a bar, CC Salon is only open to people who are 21 and older.
Also, plug this event into your digital life on our upcoming.org posting.
About
CC Salon is a free, casual monthly get-together focused on conversation, presentations, and performances from people or groups who are developing projects that relate to open content and/or software. Please invite your friends, colleagues, and anyone you know who might be interested in drinks and discussion. There are now CC Salons happening in San Francisco, Toronto, Berlin, Beijing, Warsaw, Seoul, Brisbane, and Johannesburg. Read about the first Jo’burg salon on iCommons.org.

Hello everyone out there in digi-land. I’ve been pushing for this big international event behind the scenes at Creative Commons. And, its this Friday in San Francisco from 9 PM to 2 AM. Its going to be huge because it has the normal Creative Commons Salon mixture, its at Songbird’s (the great mozilla-based music player) loft in the mission, and drinks are free the entire night. Beat that!
Oh, also, the guys of SuperFlex helped brew up a special “Creative Commons Birthday Beer”. There is a limited quantity of 366 beers that are specially editioned and ready for you to get signatures and/or drink them.
If you are curious about plugging more into this event, check out the CC Bday wiki page and jump on in. Also, if you are NOT IN SAN FRANCISCO, there are a few different celebrations happening in other countries like China, Netherlands, Italy, and Denmark.

Sneakmove reports about two new Creative Commons’ ccMixter.org’ remix contests:
there are two super cool creative commons-licensed remix contests happening now. check ‘em out.

creative commons, xlr8r magazine, and ghostly international are hosting the christopher willits “colors shifting” remix contest on ccmixter. the winning remix will be featured on an xlr8r incite cd compilation, which will be included with a future issue of xlr8r magazine.

also, saddle creek is hosting cursive’s bad sects remix contest. the winner of that contest will have their remix featured on the b-side to an upcoming cursive single.

So, first off, looks like Democrats are taking control of the House and Senate hopefully repealing and changing the current bad state of the United States. Then Rumsfeld resigns his post! What a great day!
I’m also feeling optimistic about the Microsoft/Novell deal now as well, as the complexities of it unfold.
Then, come to find out, one of my areas of major interest, Open Source Cellphones received a major boost with the announcement of the OpenMoko phone and Harold Welte’s involvment. This is great because I will be speaking at a conference in Taiwan in January, so hopefully can connect them up with Creative Commons Taiwan so we can get some properly licensed content onto these phones.
Oh, and to top it all off, tonite is the 10th Creative Commons Salon in San Francisco where the Homebrew Mobile Club, featuring Matthew Hamrick (who works for ACCESS, used to be palmsource) will be presenting about the “Complete Open Phone.”
UPDATE: The good news doesn’t end now that I see this post that Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt is calling for making data EXPORT a key strategy and encouraging others to do so, similar to something I wrote in the past. This is so great. I want to work with Google more!
