Lil Wayne on the Vocoder as Music Lolli-pill-popper Post Tha Carter III Leak

Yes, the leak kind of came out, but not really. The tracks that were leaked were slightly okay, but I have to ask, is lil Wayne doing too many drugs now or is he leading the hip hop masses into the land of hip-hop pyschedilia (or would that be cyberdelia)?

From this hiphopdx article he states:

“Fuck it, I’m not even a rapper. I’m past that…I’m an R&B singer now. Call me T-Wayne,” he said, after previewing a new song in which he sings with a vocoder. “I have an album coming out called Luv Sawngz. It’s me being more creative, more talented, more than hip-hop.”

I personally can’t stand these tracks, but, I’m totally into Lil Wayne experimenting and sending out constant shockwaves around the world of stagnant hip-hop :)

Regardless, his latest track lollipop, in which he uses a vocoder, is getting good airplay and he is working with DJ Drama on Dedication 3…brilliant!

BTW: I’m partially blogging this because I’m getting tons of traffic from any post I make about lil wayne…nearly 20% of my traffic is from lil wayne posts right now! Web folks, please do think about what this means for all the ad-clickers out there :) If you are really looking for the leak, get http://bittorrent.org and go here.

Post-Show Video from Lu Fang’s Show with Doublefish

Check out the good news:

Fort Mason show is up. We made it! Thank you for Eric Zhu (Double Fish) and Jon’s endeavor at installing the show. Without them I would not have done it. Thank you for Keldamuzik, Lingo and Eric’s performance. Before the performance, we have produced one hour live interviews with artists and viewers in the show: Keldamuzik as host, Ryota Mori as camera man, Dexter Reid as editor, Kavio as second camera man and Ling Hou as assistant. Dexter made to the show even he’s sick. I hope he feels better by now. In the beginning of the show, power for mine and the space next were out due to overusing electricity from one power source. All the TVs, projectors and speakers was dead for thirty minutes. People from Fort Mason management did not provide much help except suggested me to unplug other artists’ power. Luckily Cameron Hockenson pulled down another power outlet from the ceiling and separate the heavy usage of power. Thanks Cameron, life saver!

The video of the night is showing in Fort Mason right now. I am thinking to title the video “That is art!- Episode 9 of DivaTV”. Following clip is a video uploaded by Eric Zhu of his performance that night.

Crime Mob

I can’t get enough.

Having a Fall Back Plan vs. Music Scene

I’ve been following my cousin’s blog and tracking how his career goes. He is finishing his 3rd year at University of Illinois, Chicago in the art department and wrote this today:

I can’t wait to be done with the semester. I don’t know if all this art stuff is for me or not…It’s always been my ‘plan B,’ but now I’m pretty sure my plan A (Rockstar) is going to have to work b/c if I’m stuck behind a desk animating some crappy game, I might have to shoot myself.

Here is my response:

Hell yeah! Rock the music scene! The thing about people always saying “have a backup plan” always bothered me. The part I understand now, and/or have moved beyond the naysayers is understanding making art and music sustainable…meaning, how to get paid from the craft…

While that is often viewed as selling out, or something, figuring out how to do all different threads of music to get paid and survive is key.

So, wouldn’t it be better to play music at clubs, DJ shows, be in multiple bands, etc, rather than rely primarily on one “I will not bend to not play my music” attitude, and/or be chained to a desk doing animations.

I hate pixar. I hate disney. I really hate toy story. (I will save this for another post, about having the top technology and minds, but the worst and most basic stories…all talk and no trousers).

On a positive note, 70-80% of all large artists make their money off of licensing it to companies, film, commercials, etc…if that path can be mastered, then you have the sustainable music career down.

Check out http://magnatune.com for more on this.

I often use my all mid-west middle class family as a barometer for america, and I think it is interesting to consider my cousin’s attitude and interest in music as representative of an American drive towards bettering one’s self and also participating in culture. I’m just curious, what is the most sustainable way to do this?

Ramp and Speaker Plans

Sneakmove fave Gary Tijuana posted up about this great site that has plans for making ramps of all sizes for skateboards and other grinding-with-wheel devices. It reminds me of the speakers and speaker plans that I worked on with Matt Hope back in the day. If anyone wants to build speakers and or uses any of these plans, please do ping me about them :)

Are you in San Francisco/Yay Area this week? Come to CC Salon WEDNESDAY!

An event I help put on for Creative Commons is this week, please come out to it if you are in the area:

Hello friends. We just added some great presentations for the CC Salon SF on April 18, 7-9 PM at Shinesf.com (1337 Mission St). Here is the quick run-down:

Take a break from the heavy conference week, have a drink, or plan a meeting. Come and meet others who are interested into CC and are networking to the common call of CC licensing.

Also, if you NOTE to WRITERS and PUBLISHERS, another installment of the CC Publishers Association is going to be at 6 PM at the same venue before the salon.

Please RSVP/track this event at this upcoming.org listing.
