I’ve been laying low, and now its time to bust out! I’m on my way to Porto Alegre, Brazil for FISL12 where I started off giving one presentation about Qi Hardware, Fabricatorz and the upcoming Milkymist One, the video synthesizer (that is open hardware). And, now I’m going to be on an Open Education Roundtable (OERealidid) with Bianca Santana and Carolina Rossini, where I will discuss AcaWiki’s drive to gather the world’s academic paper summaries. Then I’ll be rounding out my time with a final talk about Fabricatorz building Open Clip Art Library and Open Font Library with Aiki Framework.

I look forward to seeing my Brazilian friends, international friends, and meeting new people, like you at the best Free Software conference, FISL! Let’s find time to meet, talk about projects, and do some business!

Here are the summaries of my talks from the FISL12 schedule:

Qi Hardware Releases Free Wireless Hardware

Updated June 15, 2011 @ 5:07 pm

From the Fabricatorz announcement:

Today we’re proud to say that we have really big news coming out today from our Qi Hardware project! Two completely patent-free, copyleft hardware wireless devices have been made and are available for sale now!

Please meet the Ben WPAN. Its offspring are the ATBEN, a wireless device that fits into the Ben Nanonote’s microSD slot, and the ATUSB, an implementation that fits in a standard computer’s USB slot. These devices can now all communicate wirelessly now!

From the Ben WPAN page:

Ben WPAN is a project to create an innovative patent-free wireless personal area network (WPAN) that is copyleft hardware. The primary protocol is 6LoWPAN, pronounced “SLoWPAN”. The project lead is Werner Almesberger and it involves using the UBB, new testing software, and the Ben Nanonote to produce a next generation wireless personal area network.

Expect great things! Qi Hardware !

Rejon 32 Release Thanks

rejon fabratar

Thanks to everyone for wishing me a happy 32 release birthday back on May 28. I’m laying low pushing mega hard on Fabricatorz projects, hires and being solid during unstable times in many places around the world. I wanted to share my new Fabratar, aka, an avatar developed by Fabricatorz’, Brad Phillips — my cool cousin. Here is the SVG version.

We have big things on the horizon, project announcements, and more. If you want to work with the Fabricatorz, contact me.
