Federated Social Web Summit in Portland

Updated June 28, 2010 @ 6:15 pm

As announced at the StatusNet blog, on Sunday, July 18th, Status.Net, Google Buzz, Diaspora, GNU Social, DiSo, BuddyPress, Dreamwidth, Onesocialweb, and others will be meeting in Portland Oregon for a Federated Social Web Summit, a one-day summit by those implementors working on building the federated social web. This means building upon open web protocols that allow for various web projects to interoperate. We will be addressing current implementations, successes and incompatibilities between services, as well as the future and how to implement it.

This conference will be around the same time as the Community Leadership Summit in Portland as well as OSCON.

For more details see here.

Oh, and a big thanks to Robert Martinez for the ultra cool logo too btw.

  1. Very interesting indeed. If you’re attending, maybe you can wheedle out of the Diaspora guys whether Diaspora will actually be usable without relying on you or your friends using unfedarated social network accounts (ie Facebook et al).

Glad to see that Identi.ca doesn’t rely on *anyone* having a Twitter / FB / Last.fm account and am hoping Diaspora will work the same way.

  2. :) Yes, pivotal is writing code with them in SF and also, they are basing part of their tech on http://ostatus.org. They are doing well though :) I’m trying to stay positive.

  3. Hey Jon,
I was able to follow some tweets from the #fsws, and found out you are comming to FISL next week. I am from the digital culture coordination at the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, and our team is working on a protocol and platform for digital collections, exploring many of the issues you were covering in Portland. It would be very nice if we had the chance to chat in POA. Let’s connect..
    Thanks for the god work!
