Throwing away broken electronics

Check out Eric and Noah’s Throwing away broken electronics (video) - Boing Boing
“>awesome video from their group Meanest Man Contest…this video reminds me of grad school at UCSD, where we regularly smashed electronics. I’m talking daily :) My favorite time though was when I came out of my studio in grad school and saw a refrigerator being tossed from 3 stories up…amazingly destructive and masculine and all those bad things you aren’t supposed to do, but do because you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with too much time on your hands :)

I hope people don’t imitate this, old electronics often contains dangerous or toxic materials and become more difficult to dispose. I can understand the fun though :P

This might be a bit off topic but the nice thing about buying new electronics is they have a warranty. You are buying something that has moving parts or electricity going to it so it has the potential of breaking, there is nothing you can do but replace it, that does not mean the company that made the product sucks, it means the individual item sucked!

Yes, this is true…and now so many products have a short life time (cellphones) for multiple reasons, including spurring new purchase…but in the end for cellphones, the tech. changes so quick, that getting the new tech is important.
