Linux Cellphone Needs

Updated September 15, 2006 @ 17:40 PDT

Why isn’t there a good cell phone on the market that is 3G? Can someone please post if there is a solution to this:

  • 3G (HDSPA/ITMS/3G)
  • 1-2 Megapixel Camera
  • GSM Quad Band
  • Big screen
  • Memory Stick
  • Uses public standards for data
  • Keyboards
  • Runs on linux!

I hopeful that the guys Kees and I met at Linuxworld who do phone hacking might be able to help.

  3. Yes, this is somewhat true…I guess I should redefine that it uses public standards for data file formats.

  4. Memory stick is sony/sonyericsson-only format, unless they start selling linuxphones you are permanently out of luck. If you skip the stick requirement, your best hope is working with the xanadux project.
