Supergirl!

The most democratic election process to ever happen in China is a tv show (in slang) called SuperGirl where the final episode in 2005 had 400 million viewers. Also, if you can read the image above, there is a sly misuse of Chinese propaganda stating that boys and girls are the same (in trying to defeat old pro-male Chinese superstition by the government). Oh, Li Yuchun is the most popular SuperGirl above who is reportedly a Lesbian (another against taboo in Mainland China).

Oh, in another funny twist, the image is said to come from the population and birth control office in China. I think its a ’shopjob (photoshopjob).

i saw her when i was in shanghai last year. just randomly catching trains and exploring and ran in to a crowd of thousand of glowstick waving teenagers yelling “Li Yuchan, number one super girl”, folloed the crowd and ended up at concert.

the music was shockingly bad! but everyone was so happy, it was a really fun experience.

haha, most people don’t like her, because she looks and behaves like a man rather than a girl (even her voice sounds like a man). The words actually mock at her by stating that there is no difference between a boy and a girl, which is borrowed from the government’s slogan (which really means “there is no difference whichever a familly choose to have a boy or a girl). It’s really funny.

She is selected the No.1 just because those viewed the show and voted are mostly teen girls. (So no wonder why they choose a “man” rather than a real supergirl.). Actually, many people I have met call her as “the thing that is not male nor female”. (不男不女的东西, if you can read chinese)。

As a chinese people, It’s funny for me to find that western people think this TV show is related with “democracy”, all of my friends laughed when they heard that Times reported this show as somgthing with “democracy”. Most chinese people will think it’s an typical commercial show, It’s successful just because it can earn a lot of money especially for chinamobile, because it will cost you 1 Yuan to vote, which is ten times much as a ordinary SMS message.

and, as noted by hq, it’s quite controversial whether Li Yuchun is lovely, anyway, don’s forget there’s more than one billion people in China, several million is just a tiny tiny portion.

Yes, but the democracy and hotness discussions are interesting because it is very much related to free market values and democratic election of sorts of a collective will. This is quite interesting with respect to globilization and China’s place in that mix.

The constant craving site is nice. It has nice pics of her looking more feminine and sexy. I think she is cute either way :)
