What I want for OSS Christmas…

Updated October 16, 2005 @ 20:35 PDT

The three major things that I’m annoyed with in Open Source:

  1. Synchronization (USING: MultiSync)
  2. Calendaring (USING: Evolution)
  3. Media Playing/Management (USING: Xfmedia)

I’m so annoyed that I can’t get MultiSync to sync my evolution with my phone. I’m so annoyed that NO media player works reliably in Open Source. I’m so annoyed that I can’t get calendar sharing working. ARGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to say that Xfmedia is the coolest app I have used in some time for media playing. However, it has some issues that I would like to sort out. However, it so much more stable than Rhythmbox and is not a limited audio-only app.

Is it not ironic that these are the three best Apple applications: iSync, iTunes, and iCal.

I have a mission in OSS to get these three areas up to par! Who is with me!

  1. Sorry but I doubt this is going to happen my christmas. I think there must be at least 50 calendar apps out there and so far all the ones I’ve tried have been disapointeing to me. Sure they might work great in their own format, but have you ever had one WORK with integrating too an online calendar site? I havn’t!

I don’t even care about syncing to my phone. All I want is a calnedar system that can be online and on a program on my computer and that they talk to each other and work “good”.

  2. Have you tried amaroK? It’s better than iTunes for music, IMHO.

  3. Yes, I like amarok…but it gives me that “bloated” feeling. I wish there were a good GTK-based player.
