Firemonger CD Cover Done with Inkscape!
That’s right! Check out this new Firemonger graphic treatment. The author used Inkscape to create this imagery. Firemonger releases CDs with Firefox on them.
Here is my friend Tadashi’s blog.

Dont know about actually created in Inkscape, acording to the authers blog post http://www.rakaz.nl/nucleus/item/97 , it looks like they were created in Adobe products, and saved out to SVG/Inkscape formats

Man!!! Yeah, I see that now
I wonder why he converted to SVG/Inkscape??? If I did the thing in Illustrator, I would have finished it in Illustrator. You know what I mean? Its not like its going on the web or anything as SVG. Its for print, right?

Note really, Tom.
The original logo was done in Photoshop/Illustrator. All the rest was done in Inkscape. The switch to Inkscape happend right after this guy was asked to use open source tools

To clear up some misunderstandings. The covers were created in Adobe Illustrator, just like the logo. The reason I moved the files to SVG was solely because the covers needed to be translated by volunteers. Illustrator is a specialistic tool, you cannot expect volunteers to buy it.
Because the target audience of the Firemonger CD would most likely print out the covers themselves on their own printers it became a viable option to do the translation in Inkscape and let it render the bitmaps our users are going to print.
If the target was professional print, I would not have considered Inkscape or SVG. If the covers are going to be printed professionally (for example for inclusion with a magazine) I will make the original Illustrator files available.

Aha…did you set up the SVG files for automatic translation??? On Inkscape we have setup docbook based tutorials which allow for easier conversion to other formats, including SVG.
Please keep me and/or the Inkscape community informed about your uses of Inkscape. Also, feature requests, etc, woudl be great to know about.
Thanks!

We all do, I guess
Adopting pdflib from Scribus is still in few milestones forward, just like the SVG 1.1 itself ;(

Wait, so Scibus is making their pdf functionality into pdflib, correct? So then, after that then Inkscape and others can benefit from the power of Scribus!

Well, this is one of the ways to go. Another way is to use Cairo to have pdf export for free
It was discussed on inkscape’s Jabber channel a while ago:
