Shuttleworth Bounty for OO.o SVG Import/Export

Updated June 29, 2005 @ 11:07 pm

I sent an initial email to the Shuttleworth Foundation to seek funds to improve SVG Import/Export for Open Office.org. This bug must be conquered. It is the most outstanding feature request and all attempts at slaying if have not succeeded I wish this work could get completed to get into version 2 of OO.o. If anyone is interested in helping me work on this, please email me. I’m seeking to get enough money to work with a small team on this to conquer and divide it.

  1. Do not expect this in OOo 2.0, it is in feature freeze for at least a couple of months and already hugely behind the schedule.
Even if a patch will be provided, it probably will be integrated in the next version, be it 2.1 or 3.0 (the roadmap is not defined), which may be (as the tradition shows) 1.5-2 years away.

  2. This would be great. Currently I have to mess with PNG roundabout, because OO.o Draw doesn’t import SVG and refuses to read EPS as well. Do I need to say that I’m much more productive with Inkscape than with Dia and Draw in context of flowcharting? :)

  3. Nicu, I figured this much so. OOo’s slow development cycle is quite annoying! I think I prefer smaller applications like Inkscape which can push out more releases.

All the same, better to get SVG Import working in OOo to have to wait 1.5-2 years now rather than that long in a year or more, right?

Alexandre: I totally agree with you!

  4. Hello Jon,

I’m sorry this has nothing to do with this thread.

I have tried to e-mail you five times and every time it says the e-mail address I provide is not valid (I’ve tried 5 different e-mails, all valid).

Could you drop me an e-mail at mortonvalence@googlemail.com please? It is concerning Morton Valence, the band; you were previously on our mailing list.

    Many thanks.
