You know what I want to plug into in the bay area? I want to have a group that gets together and talks about content issues rather than purely technical issues relating to software development. Yes, I know something like this probably already exists, so please email me about it if you know. I’m not talking LUG, or 2600 groups, but simply talk about cultural and content-based issues surrounding software and new media arts. If this group doesn’t exist, then I am going to start one. Ideally, this would be really informal with possible presentations which segue into a venue where there is beer. Okay, maybe I’m reinventing dorkbot, so this group should be focused on software and culture. I was going to say software and society, but I don’t think the acronym SS is very good.
Also, in thinking about this topic in relationship to the Open Clip Art Library, I look forward to when the project discussion expands to talk about the content of the clip art, how to improve images, etc. So much time is spent on the infrastructure, I realize in writing this paper for svgopen, that there is not much talk about the content and meaning of the imagery. I think this will change when there are more users and developers of the content, and the project will probably have a separate mailing list called clipart-art or something. Anyhow, I’ve just been thinking about this as my mind wakes up after being a programming drone on some commercial work. R-O-B-O-T-O-R-E-J-O-N
