Why is this so funny?

Is this image funnier than this image? I’m just not sure.

My 1st Computer

Man, redlucite got a brand new G5 iMac with 20″ screen — so nice! I remember my first computer, a Mac LC4mb ram/40 mb hard drive and 16 MHz 68030 processor yo!

Open Movie Project

Projects like this Open Movie Project are why I helped to start the Open Clip Art Library in the first place.

Looks like there is a Call for Participation. It would be great if some Open Clip Art Library artists got involved so we could claim affiliation. Would anyone be interested in pledging support as Open Clip Art Library to provide necessary artwork?

Come to think of…I have a huge 3 month opening in my schedule before I start teaching at SFAI on September 1. I guess I could join as a developer and that would pay for my flight to Europe for conferences…hmmmm….

Novel Evolution of Planet Use

I think Edd Dumbill is great. I like his evolutionary update to the usage of the planet type site for the Xtech conference by including the recent changes from the Xtech Wiki, flickr, technorati, and Del.icio.us content aggregation related to Xtech using RSS.

I think this is so vital because so much is happening during a conference that this type of way of harvesting it all as feeds really serves a conference well. I think much better than trying to get someone to collect information, or trying to get conference-goers to download that collective writing software for group notes. Of course, there is the threshold of needing a blog, or participating in these various technology sites. But, obviously, these things are already done by the Xtech crowd and I believe bode well for future business and other types of community-based conferences.

I think this model might also be good for open source projects. I think Inkscape and OCAL could benefit from feeds from the recent changes to the wiki and other updated content.

Various Pieces

I have been coming across a lot of fun links. For one, I’ve become interested in Linux gaming: Legends and openquartz.sf.net. I’ve also been checking out web calendars: icalworld and icalshare. I think both of these worlds could take a boost of adrenaline. I’m happy that evolution supports the ics format. I think it is only a matter of time before all these lovely social software sites support ical in a major way (and I know some do).

I see another project that is a diamond in the rough, much like Inkscape seemed back in the day: OpenSync and MultiSync. Now, I need more time!!! I think this project could benefit from consolidation and ways to focus the development community. I think this should start with a general lowering of barriers, and consolidation of the the two projects into the OpenSync.org domain name. MultiSync is becoming the GUI portion of the OpenSync framework, however it would be great to centralize the activity for this project, and OpenSync sounds like a great name. However, if things were centralized more behind MultiSync, that would be okay as well.

I tested DMS installation today and made several notes. It works! Now, I would like to get it moved over to the OCAL repository and then cleanup some of the directions and Makefile.PL misc. debris.

Computational Narratology

Joseph put up a page on Computational Narratology. I’m looking forward to teaching at SFAI next year and the time that will afford me to get more into what I love…

AHHHHHHHH

I spent this weekend with friends in the countryside of South Korea, and also at a gopets party. Last week I worked a 52 hour day man; I knocked out a lot of work on this gopets fast. Now, I’m heading back to the states on Tuesday to begin pushing on other projects and to celebrate my bday at the end of May. More in a bit…I’m meeting a couple of friends today (Sunday) in JongNo, Seoul.

I’m starting to remember that necessary “needing a home-base to get work done.” However, this weekend was great and I spent much time in deep thought and rest (and Soju heaven).
