I have to say that Inkscape’s low barrier style development is exceptional compared to other projects I try to work on/with. I really think that allowing small to medium scale easy access to the working development source code repositories with one or two patches, or contributions, really is the way to go compared to kernel style dev.
I’ve been adding some infrastructure to ejabberd, a scalable erlang-based jabber server. I’m reminded, as Bryce has commented previously, how the Inkscape style of development is successful, as this project only accepts patches, and I really just need to dig in hardcore to adding simple things like daemon init scripts, make directives etc, to make it very easy to use for developers, and administrators.
NOTE: I also understand that different styles of development are useful for different situations and scales of developers and users.

World of Warcraft is the best game! I played today during lunch at a PC Bang. Koreans are generally attracted to group and collaborative games where the physical group network is mirrored in a PC Bang by the augmented virtual characters in games like Starcraft and the aforementioned. So cool!

I started reading a bit more about various activities in Korea and came across an article about Club Night. The thought of those club nights just makes me tired now. While traditional Korean food is geared towards health, I think much of this is undone by the cultural penchant for vices.

Well, my grandpa is doing much better now. I have flown to Seoul, Korea to do some work for GoPets on their jabber chat system and other social software developments. Unfortunately, I couldn’t give a talk to Paul Klein’s San Francisco Art Institute class on FRIDAY because of commitments with family. He is a great guy and totally supportive!
I’m now checking out Bryce’s DMS so that I can work on that before this month’s release, which is coming up next weekend! There are so many tasks that we have been pushing back because of the necessity of DMS on our site. Through the mailing list I think we have sorted some of the problems with use of the PERL code with the primarily PHP site, so we just need to push it up hill. I updated the wiki page on DMS so that others can check it out from CVS and help sort it out quick.
I’m kind of out of it here today, but have been having many realizations about language and culture on this trip to Seoul. This is in part to attending an event at Art Center Nabi with my friend Chuck and meeting many media-arts professors and artists. I guess it takes a few trips here to actually start plugging into this scene further. I feel pretty confident now when in Korea, besides the fact that my Korean cell phone is a rock at the moment.
Oh, printing is soooo cheap here by the way! It costs around $4-5 for 1000 4-color double-sided business cards!

I made an emergency trip to rural Illinois to help make decisions about my grandpa who had a stroke over the weekend. Man, so many life struggles to deal with in my family! I feel good though that I have helped sort this out and he is doing much better.
I’m off to SEOUL here later this week then after this emergency midwest trip to do some more work. Please, any open source folk contact me if I’m in your neighborhood. I’ve met many great Open Source folk in South Korea in the past like Mike McCormack from Wine and Codeweavers. Also, I’ve met Shawn Soon-son Kwon, who works for Samsung and heads up the Korean Linux Documentation Project and gave a presentation to KLDP last summer. That group is the core of the linux community in South Korea.

I’ve been listening to: Black Star, Talib Kweli, and Daft Punk. I would like to get into more open content music, but I find it hard to find the time to explore this area of content.
